Tempered Glass
Capabilities
Glass Types and Thickness
Our convection tempering oven can accommodate glass
thicknesses from 1/8" to
1". This capability includes all of the standard colors of float
glass (clear, grey, bronze etc) as well as low iron glass types such
as Starphire by PPG. Additionally, we stock and are able to temper a
very comprehensive range of patterned glass in an assortment of thicknesses.
Additional patterned glass information can be found in the Patterned
Glass Selector Section of the website.
High Performance Glass
Craftsman Fabricated Glass is one of a select number
of glass fabricators that have been chosen to be a member of the PPG CFP
(Certified Fabricator Program). Membership in this program assures that
the fabrication process utilized by a fabricator is in keeping with the
strict requirements outlined by the manufacturer to insure the high performance
coatings on the glass are not compromised in any way during fabrication.
Glass Size
Maximum glass size for tempering or heat-strengthening
is 84" x 182"
Minimum glass size is 8" x 8"
These sizes can be fabricated in all of our glass types and thicknesses
outlined above, but are subject to availability of manufacturers case
sizes.
Glass Shapes
The automated glass cutting equipment utilized in the Craftsman factory
gives capabilities well above industry standards. Patterns may be ordered
by drawing or template. While certainly not the entire scope of our
capabilities, the following are examples of standard shapes and industry
terminology.
Standard Shapes

Edgework Options
For tempered glass with exposed edges, Craftsman provides “brilliant” cerium
polished optical quality edgework, including the thin beveled aris’s.
This standard brilliant edgework on all Craftsman’s frameless glass
applications provides a very subtle elegance to doors and sidelites.
Additionally, various “shape polishers” that are used gives full capabilities
to provide this same excellence in edgework on radiused edges, table tops
and all manner of custom shapes.
Fabrication
A Point Supported Glass Wall System must have precisely located countersunk
holes; drilled holes must be finished with minimal oystering or edge
defects. To accomplish this objective, hole drilling and countersinking
is done with water cooled diamond bits on a CNC
drilling and milling machine specifically designed for this purpose. The programming is done
during order entry; thus eliminating the need to have machine operators
interpret drawings, and program instructions in the shop. This same precision
drilling and milling equipment is used with glass destined for heavy
glass frameless bath enclosures. Just as important, holes in bath enclosures
must be precisely located for proper mounting of hinges and pulls, and
for edge-mounted clips that require holes and notches.
CNC Controlled Waterjet Cutting opens opportunities
for creative uses of glass, marble, granite, mirror, metals, and many other
substrates. A special cutting garnet is introduced into a stream of water
that is pumped through a .007” orfice at ~50,000 lbs. per square inch of pressure. At that
point the water is moving faster than a 22 caliber bullet, so virtually
all items that can be inserted under the jet stream can be cut into intricate
shapes.

Crating
Craftsman has a complete crating department in house. Our experience
shipping our product around the world insures that potential for damage
in shipping is minimized. All units can be packaged in protective wooden
crates for shipment to jobsites outside our local delivery area at a small
additional charge.
Rack Delivery
Specially designed steel racks may be utilized for jobsite delivery within
our local delivery area, These racks offer excellent protection of
the units, ease of movement around the jobsite, and eliminate the cost
of expensive disposal of the traditional wood crating.
